Following successful first year, the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai signs extension with the UK’s largest amateur golf event
The Matchplay Championship, the largest amateur golf tournament in the UK and Ireland, has renewed its partnership with the world’s tallest dedicated hotel, the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai. The lucky forty Grand Finalists in next year’s event will be able to revel in the luxurious amenities available at the five-star hotel, which received unanimous praise from this year’s competitors for its outstanding level of service, first-class dining facilities and extensive leisure facilities. The feedback from the competitors and their guests delighted tournament organisers, so there was no hesitation in extending the Agreement for the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai to remain as the Official Host Partner for the 2013/2014 Golf Care Matchplay Championship.
“Over the last decade we’ve grown to become the biggest golf event in the UK and Ireland, a feat which is a fantastic achievement and one we’re incredibly proud of. Naturally, our success would not have been possible without the support that we continue to receive from our long-standing relationship with Marriott,” noted John Woosey, Matchplay Championship, Managing Director. “We’ve had a wonderful experience this year at the JW Marriott Marquis, which has already made a significant impact on the hospitality industry in Dubai, despite only opening earlier this year. Not to mention the impact it’s had on what was an already impressive Dubai skyline. The first-class service and hospitality was exceptional and all of our finalists have been incredibly forthright in their positive assessment of the entire hotel. We’re looking forward to next year, where we fully expect competitors to be similarly blown away.”
With a choice of ten restaurants, four lounges and entertainment venues, plus a world class spa and health club, guests enjoy sheer luxury, scale and grandeur. The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, General Manager, Rupprecht Queitsch noted, “We’re delighted to be associated with the Golf Care Matchplay Championship in what is our first full year in operation. From start-to-finish we have been impressed by the professional organisation of the event staff and the sheer enthusiasm that resonated throughout the competitors. It has been a resounding success for all involved and we look forward to welcome the finalists back with open arms in May 2014.”
With thousands of players competing from all over the UK and Ireland each year, the Golf Care Matchplay Championship is one of Europe’s largest amateur golf tournaments. Entry into this marquee amateur event is open to players of abilities, unlike most elite golf events, as men and women with handicaps less than 28 and 36 respectively are eligible to compete in the Men’s Singles, Men’s Pairs and Mixed Pairs events, where knockout stages are followed by a better-ball stableford format in the Regional and Grand Finals. All of the action from the Regional Finals onwards is filmed and aired during eight one hour shows on Sky Sports in June and July, resulting in significant exposure for the event and the sponsors during peak golfing season.
This year’s closing date (30th June) is fast-approaching and with the 2013/14 Matchplay Championship set to be bigger and better than ever before, people are being urged to enter now to avoid the disappointment of missing out on the experience of a lifetime.
