The largest European amateur matchplay golf event

The Matchplay Championship is the largest European amateur matchplay golf event providing golfers throughout the UK and Ireland the opportunity to enter a truly national competition.

The 07/08, 08/09 and 09/10 Matchplay Championship Grand Finals are being held at the 5 Star Marriott Taba Heights Beach Resort, Egypt. In 2009 we had 3300 golfers enter. In 2010 we saw this figure rise to over 3800 golfers. Each year 32 qualifying finalists go through to the Grand Final.

Headline sponsors for the 2009/10 event are Direct Golf UK, Rewards4Golf and Golf Monthly and the event is promoted in association with The Daily Telegraph.

The Matchplay Championship is now also covered by Sky Sports with both the Regional Finals and the Grand Final being filmed. The two hour show is broadcast and repeated five times across the Sky Sports network.
