Just 2 years after turning professional Bernard won the 1969 PGA Championship. Over the course of a successful playing career, Bernard accumulated an impressive 10 wins on the European Tour and finished in the Top 10 on the European Tour Order of Merit 5 times.
His name became synonymous with the Ryder Cup, after playing in 8 matches and captaining the European Team in 1991, 1993 and 1995. All 3 matches of his captaincy were extremely close, with Europe losing the first two but achieving a stunning victory in the third match under his captaincy on US soil at Oak Hill Country Club, New York.
Bernard was also the professional at the prestigious Wentworth Club for 25 years until the end of 1996. As one of golf's most popular figures and following his time at Wentworth, Bernard has maintained a high-profile in the sport with his media work. A highly-regarded authority on the sport, Bernard is recognised for his reassuring nature and pure-professionalism. Those attributes are what have led him to become so heavily associated with Golf Care, the UK's largest Specialist Golf Insurer.
"I have been involved in golf for more than 40 years as a tour player, PGA Professional, Golf Club Captain, Ryder Cup Captain and commentator, and I have witnessed an awful lot of things on a golf course, I can tell you! All golfers should seriously consider taking out specialist golf insurance to make sure they are properly covered every time they step on the tee," he commented.
"I found it really interesting to hear that around nine out of ten golfers aren't properly insured for golf," continued Bernard.
